Description

The first edition of A Good Man Is Hard To Find by Flannery O’Connor, in a first state dust jacket.

Octavo, 251pp, [5]. Black cloth, title stamped in yellow and pink on the spine. Stated “first edition” on the copyright page, with “tyring” error on page 125. Wear at heel of the spine, light dust remnant along top edge of text block. Paperclip remnant on title and copyright page. Otherwise clean, solid text block. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, reviews for “Wise Blood” and the “Harcourt, Brace And Company” imprint on rear panel, but price clipped (not a point). Sunning along the spine, as is typical with this jacket. A very good example.

(Bruccoli & Clark I, 281)

A Good Man Is Hard to Find is Flannery O’Connor’s best-known short story, first published in 1953 in the anthology Modern Writing I, before giving its title to her first short-story collection, A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories, issued by Harcourt, Brace and Company in 1955.
