Octavo, [1]-403pp. Contemporary full sheep, raised bands with five compartments on spine, title in gilt over red morocco label. Brown endpapers, joints worn. Intermittent toning and foxing throughout, pages 233-234 with tear and partial loss, ownership inscriptions and modern bookplate affixed to front pastedown endpaper. Housed in custom blue cloth clamshell, title in gilt on red spine label. (Sabin 2334) (Howes A377) (Thomson, Ohio, 51) Inscribed on the title page: “To W.H. Garrard of Shelby County Ohio, from W.H. Harrison of North Bend, March 14th, 1839.” An outstanding presentation copy of one of the earliest histories of the state of Ohio, preceded only by Salmon Chase’s 1833 A Sketch of the History of Ohio.
