Description

Octavo, iv, 381pp, [1-blank]. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards, spine with title in gilt over red label. Old stamp from the Carnegie Free Library (title page, PG. 115, PG. 246). Ink mark on pp. iii.
Comments: This book was the first published account of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Much to the dismay of Captains Lewis and Clarke, Patrick Gass printed his account nearly 7-years before the official account was published by Lewis and Clark. He coined the term “Corp of Discovery,” which became synonymous with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. (Sabin 26741) (Howes G77)
