Small octavo, [xii], 200pp. Blue cloth, title in white lettering on cover and spine, portrait on front cover. Significant wear to title on spine. Light fading to title on cover, library marking on spine. Ex-library copy with “Inventory” stamp on title page and rear endpaper. Contains frontispiece portrait of Henson and 3 photographic plates.

Comments: Matthew Henson accompanied Robert Peary on seven voyages to the Arctic and was part of an expedition that claimed to reach the North Pole in 1909. This memoir was largely ignored at its time of publication. In later life, Henson would be admitted to the prestigious Explorers Club in New York City. Henson passed away in 1955 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery thirty two years after his death.
