McGeorge Bundy (1919-1996) served as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. During Johnson’s administration, Bundy remained one of the president’s chief foreign policy advisers from 1963 until early 1966, helping shape U.S. policy on Vietnam at a time of deepening American involvement in the war. Before his White House service, Bundy had worked in government during World War II and later became a leading academic as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard.
