Signed by All-American basketball player and future U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, and the author, John McPhee, the first edition of A Sense of Where You Are.

Octavo, x, 144pp, [27 photographs]. Full black cloth, title in gilt on spine. Stated “First printing, 1965” on copyright page. Solid text block, a fine example. Includes 27 black and white photographs at rear of text depicting Bradley’s collegiate basketball career. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $3.95 retail price on front flap, rippling to panels, a few small chips and sunning to spine.

Inscribed by the author on the title page: “For Barry Amis / regards / John McPhee.” Additionally signed on the title page by the subject, Bill Bradley.

Until the publication of this book, neither the author nor Bill Bradley were well known to a national audience. This work, the first book from John McPhee, launched his career. McPhee (b. 1931) went on teach at Princeton University, win a Pulitzer Prize in Non-Fiction, and is considered a pioneer of “creative nonfiction.”

The subject of this book, Bill Bradley (b. 1943), played basketball in the NBA for a decade, served 18 years in the United States Senate, and ran for President of the United States in 2000.
