State Of The Expedition From Canada by John Burgoyne, a first edition of this important historical text.

Quarto, [viii], 140pp, lxii, [1, “Advertisement.”]. Expertly rebound with contemporary boards, mottled calf, red morocco label on spine, gilt over label. Six maps with folding engraved map in front with route marked by hand, five folding engraved battle plans at rear. Maps were engraved by William Faden. Frontispiece map includes: “A Map of the Country in which the army under Lt. General Burgoyne acted in the Campaign of 1777. Showing the Marches of the Army.” Rear maps include: “Plan of the Action at Huberton,” “Walmscock near Bennington: Showing attacks of the enemy,” “Swords House on Hudson’s River near Stillwater,” “Braemus Heights,” and “Burgoine at Saratoga.” Maps are all near fine, showing only the lightest wear from handling. One of the most historically important works of the Revolutionary War, detailing Burgoyne’s campaign during the conflict. These documents were collected before General Burgoyne presented his explanations to the House of Commons. The battle of Saratoga was a turning point in the Revolutionary War for the colonists, forcing the surrender of Burgoyne’s army of 5000 men.
