This book was published in commemoration of John D. Rockefeller’s contributions to the city of Cleveland. Rockefeller was the founder of Standard Oil Company in 1870, which he ran until 1897. At its peak, Standard Oil controlled 90% of all oil in the United States, making Rockefeller the richest American of all time. In many ways, Mr. Rockefeller’s development of oil refineries in Cleveland contributed to its economic success during the early part of the 20th Century. He is buried in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland.
