Octavo, 366pp. Publisher’s green cloth with title in gilt on spine, decorative gilt and black illustrations on cover. Includes 174 illustrations by E.W. Kemble. Exceptionally bright gilt on spine and front cover. Small archival repair to cloth on spine, conservation work to corners and tips of spine. Solid text block, light soiling to frontispiece, faint dampstain to page 287, thumb marks on page 283, otherwise clean.

Contains the following first issue points, including a publication date of 1885 on title page, with 1884 on copyright page, “Huck Decided to Leave” on page 9, illustration “Him and another Man” incorrectly listed as page “88” on page 13, misprint “was” for “saw” on page 57, on page 155 the last “5” in page number is printed with a different typeface, the “l” is missing from “Col.” on page 143, no signature “11” on page 161 and page 283 being a cancel. The heliotype slug appears on the Twain bust, with tissue cover over portrait. (BAL 3415) (McBride 92)
