This copy is inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To my friend + my grandson’s friend, Prof. Edward Caldwell Moore, with sincere regards of Henry Morgenthau. June 13 / 29.” The recipient of this book, Rev. Dr. Edward Caldwell Moore was a prolific author and Professor of Theology at Harvard University.

Henry Morgenthau, Sr. served as the United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during World War I. This work by Morgenthau is the definitive account of the Armenian Genocide during the last years of the Ottoman Empire. Ambassador Morgenthau would pass away in 1946. His son, Henry Morgenthau Jr. would serve as the Secretary of the Treasury for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His grandson, Robert M. Morgenthau, would serve as the District Attorney for Manhattan for 35 years.
