Octavo, ix, [3], 296pp. Full blue morocco with gilt double-ruled border on covers. Title in gilt on spine, raised bands with decorative gilt compartments. Marbled endpapers, decorative gilt turn-ins, top edge gilt. Uncut and unopened. Includes the publisher’s original glassine dust jacket, light chipping to spine ends, otherwise fine. Housed in the original blue cardboard box. (Conrad 291) (Fitzgerald 122) From a limited edition of 225 copies, printed on rag paper and signed by the author. This being number 138 of 225. A fine example.

Richard E. Byrd (1888-1957) was an American naval officer and polar explorer. He is known for being the first explorer to reach the North Pole and South Pole by air, but the North Pole claim is in dispute.
