Winfred Rembert (1945-2021) was a Civil Rights activist who spent seven years on a chain gang and survived a lynching after participating in a march in the 1960s. He was a prolific lifelong artist, using hand tools and dye to create art on leather canvases. Rembert’s posthumous memoir, Chasing Me to My Grave, received the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Biography.
