Front joint of Volume III starting to separate, otherwise solid text blocks. Lacking half-title in all volumes. Armorial bookplate of Charles Smith affixed to the front pastedown endpaper of each volume. Sewn-in silk bookmark in each volume. Scottish economist and philosopher Adam Smith (1723-1790) spent 10 years writing and perfecting An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, the first book of modern economic theory and a foundational work on capitalism. The first edition was released in 1776, with this seventh edition being published in 1793.
