Octavo, 72pp. Full red morocco, title in gilt on cover, with decorative gilt borders. The spine has been rebuilt and reinforced. Originally held by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, with bookplate on front pastedown endpaper and embossed seal on title page. Front free endpaper torn in half and missing upper portion. Clean text throughout, free of any marks or notations. (Sabin 291) A very good example of this scarce pamphlet on Cincinnati history.

The first public observatory in the Western Hemisphere, the Cincinnati Observatory was dedicated by former president John Quincy Adams on November 9th, 1843. The dedication was an arduous trip for the aging ex-president, but when he arrived, he delivered an hour long address to the gathered public. In his honor, the citizens of Cincinnati renamed Mt. Ida, where the Observatory was located, to Mt. Adams. The Observatory remained in Mt. Adams until 1873, when pollution forced it to be moved to Mt. Lookout, where it remains today.
