From the library of Joan Mondale, Second Lady of the United States, Ansel Adams 1902-1984, inscribed by Virginia Best Adams.

Octavo, 56pp. White embossed softcover. Light shelf wear to both covers, text block in fine condition. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “For Joan Mondale, with love from Virginia Adams. Pacific Grove. October 12, 1984.”

Joan Mondale (1930-2014) was known as Joan of Art, during her time as the Second Lady of the United States. She worked closely with Ansel Adams to display some of his photography at the Vice Presidential Mansion (Number One Observatory Circle). Mondale also worked behind the scenes to have Adams photograph President and Mrs. Carter, which occurred at the White House in November of 1979. Ansel Adams was presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Carter in 1980.
