The first edition, fourth printing of Armazindy, inscribed by James Whitcomb Riley with two lines of verse.

Small octavo, xiii, [1], 1-76, [2], 77-169pp, [3]. Green buckram cloth, title stamped in silver on the spine and front cover, top edge in silver gilt. Frontispiece portrait of Riley. The fourth state of the first edition, with “She said, as, lifting” on Page 109 (line 12). (BAL 16602) (Russo, p. 51-58) Pencil marks and drawing on page [77], otherwise clean. Bookplate of Frederic W. Gardner on the front pastedown.

Inscribed by James Whitcomb Riley to Chicago publisher and noted book collector Orville W. Brewer, on the front free endpaper: “To O.W. Brewer, Esq. With best greetings, James Whitcomb Riley / Indianapolis, Ind., Nov.-1894. / The sweetest thoughts we ever know, We plagiarize from Long Ago.”
