Octavo, xii, 337pp. Full navy blue morocco, raised bands with six gilt-ruled compartments on spine, decorative silk doublures with gilt-ruled turn-ins. All gilt edges. Stated “tenth printing” on the copyright page. Red silk bookmark. One of 72 copies bound by the Dun & Bradstreet Company for their clients, during the Christmas season of 1959. Includes a Christmas card with facsimile inscription by Bernard Baruch and three photographs. Housed in custom blue morocco pull-off case. A fine copy.
Bernard Baruch (1870-1965) was an American investor, financier, philanthropist and political adviser. He founded the Intercontinental Rubber Company and dominated the rubber market in the early 1900s. He founded his own brokerage and became known as “The Lone Wolf of Wall Street,” when he refused to partner with any brokerage house. He was an adviser to Democratic presidents from Woodrow Wilson to Harry S. Truman and a close friend of Winston Churchill. He died in 1965.
