From a limited edition of 25 copies, specially bound and slipcased, this being number 20, signed by the author, Don E. Alberts.

A full-length biography of General Wesley Merritt, (1836-1910), a West Point graduate, who rose rapidly in the Union cavalry, earning promotion to brigadier general after the battle of Brandy Station, commanding cavalry in the Shenandoah Valley and Appomattox campaigns.

After the war, he served on the western frontier, commanded the 5th Cavalry, and was superintendent of the United States Military Academy from 1882 to 1887. In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, Merritt commanded the U.S. expeditionary force to the Philippines and became the first American military governor of the Philippines.
