The “Clements for Governor” dinner was held on September 12, 1978 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Bill Clements would win the election, becoming the first Republican to serve as governor of Texas since Reconstruction.
Anne L. Armstrong served as counselor to the president during the Nixon Administration and the United States Ambassador to Great Britain during the Ford Administration. She was briefly discussed as Reagan’s running mate in the 1980 presidential campaign.
