Brown cloth, title in gilt on spine, title on front cover, gilt worn on spine. Floral endpapers. Illustrated with hundreds of photographic portraits of the soldiers and foldout map of the Battle of Shiloh. Clean text, solid text block. Bookplate of noted Civil War historian and author Peter Cozzens on front free endpaper. (Nevins I, 115) An excellent example.

Comments: This work is the most complete history of the 46th Illinois available. It was first compiled by General Benjamin Dornblaser, but he died before it was completed. Lieutenant Thomas B. Jones, the historian of Company B, finished the work for publication in 1906.
