The first edition of Conversations with Gorbachev: On Perestroika, the Prague Spring, and the Crossroads of Socialism, inscribed by Mikhail Gorbachev. The only known copy signed by Gorbachev.

Octavo, 225pp. Maroon hardcover, title in silver on spine. The first printing, with a full number line on the copyright page. Written with Zdenek Mlynar, a foreword by Mikhail Gorbachev, introduction by Archie Brown, and translated by George Shriver. In the publisher’s near fine dust jacket, touch of shelf wear, bright illustrations.

Laid-in card from Roger L. Jenkins, Dean of the Farmer School of Business at Miami University, informing the recipient that he had Gorbachev sign this copy for him. The recipient is assumed to be Dr. John Bowblis of the Miami School of Economics.

This copy is inscribed on the half title: “To John, My best regards. Mikhail Gorbachev / 24.x.05.”

Mikhail Gorbachev visited Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, on October 24, 2005, as part of the Jack R. Anderson Distinguished Lecturer series. Miami’s German, Russian, and East Asian Languages newsletter reported that he spoke to a packed audience about the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union and his assessment of current global challenges.
