Written when Jones was only twenty-four, Down the Fairway combines autobiography with an account of the development of his golf game and tournament career. Jones had won both the U.S. Open and Open Championship in 1926; three years after publication, he completed his celebrated 1930 Grand Slam, winning the British Amateur, British Open, U.S. Open, and U.S. Amateur in the same year.
