Quarto, [unpaginated]. Contemporary 3/4 calf binding, brown morocco spine with raised bands, title in gilt over red morocco label. Marbled end papers. Large folding map of Egypt, 37 of 42 lithographic plates, 7 fold-out illustrations of Egyptian hieroglyphics. Half title only, as is usual. Originally appeared in wrappers only and intended for private distribution in London. A scarce work, with only two other copies known to exist. (Blackman, 40).
Comments: The author of this work, Edward Cooper, was a politician and astronomer, who sat in the House of Commons from 1830-1841. He was the creator of the Markee Observatory in Ireland. He traveled in Egypt in the 1820 and returned with the lithographs to develop this work.
