Octavo, [two volumes]. Bound in brown leather, title in gilt on spine, raised bands, all edges gilt. From the Easton Press, with the first editions appearing in 1983 and 1984 from Simon & Schuster. Inscribed in Volume I by the author: “For Bill Safire, From His Fan. Sincerely, S.E. Ambrose.”

William Safire was a Pulitzer Prize winning conservative columnist for the New York Times. He was a frequent guest on Meet The Press, describing himself as the voice of “libertarian conservatives.” Before joining the New York Times, Safire served as a presidential speechwriter for President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew.
