Description

Employment Conditions in Beauty Shops by Ethel Erickson, a report compiled by the Women’s Bureau of the United States Department of Labor.

Octavo, v, [1], 46pp. Original green printed wrappers, bound at spine with staples. Some light dampstaining to text pages along lower portion of gutter and outer corners, not affecting text. No notations to text. Vertical crease down the center from handling. A nice example

This pamphlet contains the results of a survey conducted by the Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau on wages, hours and conditions of employment in beauty shops in the early 1930s. Four particular cities were studied for this report: Philadelphia, New Orleans, St. Louis and Columbus. There is also a 10-page section related specifically to African American owned shops.
