Octavo, 712pp. Blue cloth, title in gilt on spine with decorative illustrations. Color illustration of an elephant on front cover. Lightly rubbed boards, some wear from handling. Light foxing to frontispiece tissue cover. Tape remnant on title page and three leaves of the “Contents” section. This first state includes the signature mark “11” on page 161 and single Hartford imprint on title page. Both points called for in BAL 3451.
