Twelvemo, [8], 78pp. Publisher’s original tan buckram spine, gray paper boards. Title printed on label affixed to spine. Previous ownership label affixed to front endpaper. Includes 3 maps drawn by Lieutenant Couts. Some toning to maps, text generally clean. (Howes C811). This small imprint was the last publication of Arthur Ellis, the founder of the Zamorano Club, in 1932. The following year it was reissued as the Arthur M. Ellis Memorial Edition of the Journal & Maps of Cave J. Couts.

Cave Johnson Couts (1821-1874) led the military escort assigned to Amiel W. Whipple’s Boundary Commission. The military detachment was charged with mapping the new border between the United States and Mexico following the Mexican-American War. His original diaries are found in the Bancroft Library at Berkeley.
