Octavo, [6], 1037pp, [5]. Full gray-blue cloth, title in blue on front cover and spine. Stated “Published May, 1936” on copyright page, no additional printings listed. Solid text block, thin creases along spine, light wear along edges. Glue remnants from previous bookplate on front endpaper. A very good example. Housed in a custom blue cloth clamshell, title in gilt on black morocco label affixed to spine.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was adapted into a feature film in 1939. According to a Harris Poll in 2014, this book remains the “second favorite book of American readers, just behind the Bible.”
