Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, first edition, second printing.
Octavo, [vi], 1037, [5 blank] pp. Gray cloth, title stamped on spine and front cover. A first edition, second printing, with “Set up and electrotyped. Published June, 1936” on copyright page, with no mention of other printings. The first issue was printed in May of 1936. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper. Light rubbing to boards, general toning to leaves, solid text block. Lacking the dust jacket, as is usual. An attractive example.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was adapted into a feature film in 1939. According to a Harris Poll in 2014, this book remains the “second favorite book of American readers, just behind the Bible.”
