The first edition, first printing of Anne Frank’s diary.

Small octavo, ix, [1], 253pp, [1]. Publishers original paper boards, orange and white coloring, title printed on spine and front cover, usual toning to spine. Text in dutch. Includes frontispiece portrait of Anne Frank, two photographic plates, a floor plan and two facsimile leaves of the diary. Previous ownership inscription on front free end paper, with booksellers label beneath. Facsimile copy of the publishers original dust jacket. An exceptional first edition copy of one of the most important books of the 20th Century.
Comments: Het Achterhuis or The Secret Annex, was first published in articles in Amsterdam in 1946, written by Jan Romein. The diaries were in the hands of Otto Frank, Anne’s father, who was interested in finding a publisher. The newspaper articles piqued the interest of Contact Publishing, who produced a first edition of 3,036 copies on June 25th, 1947. This first edition of Anne Frank’s diaries includes the earliest printed versions of her diaries. The second printing was published in December of 1947.
