Signed by German politician and author who founded the Schwarze Front, Otto Strasser. Inscription reads: “With compliments from the author, Otto Strasser.”

An early member of the Nazi Party, Otto Strasser represented the left wing of the rising socialist movement in Germany. He was a strong advocate for workers’ unions, nationalization of banks and closer international ties with the Soviet Union. He was expelled from the party in 1930 and formed his own political party, the Schwarze Front, or Black Front, in an attempt to split the Nazi Party. The remnants of opposition to Hitler were expelled during the Night of the Long Knives in 1934, in which Strasser’s brother was killed. Strasser fled to Canada and spent the war writing about his experience in Nazi Germany.
