Covers worn from handling, toning to spine. Inscribed by Roosevelt confidant and writer Lawrence F. Abbott: “Inscribed for Carolyn Wells Houghton, with the best wishes of Lawrence F. Abbott. New York, March 5th, 1920.” Bookplate of Ms. Carolyn Wells on the front free endpaper. Includes a letter from the son of President Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., to Ms. Wells.

Carolyn Wells was a close friend of Edith Kermit Roosevelt and dedicated one of her books to the former First Lady.
