Description

The first edition of Iran Under The Pahlavis, edited by George Lenczowski, and inscribed by the last Iranian Ambassador to the United States, Ardeshir Zahedi.

Octavo, xxii, 550pp. Maroon cloth, title stamped in gilt. No additional printings noted. Solid text block. In the publisher’s dust jacket, chipping along top edge, wear at tips, a very good example.

This copy is inscribed by Ardeshir Zahedi on the half title, with a long inscription, dated 2003. Includes the calling card of the Iranian Ambassador to the United States.

Ardeshir Zahedi (1928-2021) was an Iranian diplomat and statesman, the son of General Fazlollah Zahedi, who served as Iran’s prime minister after the 1953 coup. Educated in Switzerland and the United States, Zahedi became Iran’s ambassador to the United States (1960-1962, 1973-1979) and the United Kingdom (1962-1966), and served as Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1966 to 1971 under Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Zahedi lived in exile, primarily in Switzerland, and later published memoirs reflecting on his diplomatic career and Iran’s monarchy.
