Octavo, 751pp. Illustrated paperback. Stated “First Touchstone Edition” on copyright page, with full number line. Book appears unread. Light shelf wear to covers, but an overall fine copy. Signed by Senator John Kerry on the half title: “To my colleague and friend Carl – with enormous respect and admiration for your efforts to take us in the right direction. Warm Regards, John Kerry. 10/22/02.”

An excellent association copy between two giants of the United States Senate.

On October 11th, 2002, the Senate voted to authorize President Bush to use military force against Iraq, just 11 days before John Kerry dedicated this book to the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin. Levin had voted against the Iraq War authorization and was a vocal critic of United States involvement in the region. He used his position as the Chairman of the Committee on Armed Services to hold the Bush administration accountable for their actions in Iraq, which was encouraged by Senator John Kerry. In 2004, Kerry ran against President George W. Bush for President of the United States. He fought in the Vietnam War, where he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. After the war, he became an outspoken critic of the war, launching his political career in the process.
