The first edition of John H. Glenn: Astronaut, signed by the author, Lt. Col. Philip Pierce and Astronaut, John Glenn. This copy was inscribed to New York Post columnist, Leonard Lyons.
Octavo, x, [2], 208pp, [4]. Green cloth, title stamped in black. Stated “First Printing” on the copyright page. Includes a limitation page on the front free endpaper, called the “Limited Autograph Marine Corps Edition.” In the publisher’s dust jacket, $3.95 on the front flap, shallow chipping, shelf wear to rear panel, a very good example.
Inscribed on the second free endpaper: “For Len Lyons – Who makes it out into space every once in a while – – without benefit of a capsule!! With warmest personal regards, Phil Pierce.” Additionally signed by Astronaut John Glenn.
John Glenn (1921-2016) was the first American to orbit Earth, completing the mission aboard Friendship 7 in 1962. He served as a U.S. senator from Ohio from 1974 to 1999. In 1998, at age 77, he became the oldest person to fly in space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.
