Signed by Vice President Richard Cheney and his wife Lynne Cheney on the half title, dated “6/11/83.” Additional signature of future Vice President Richard Cheney on front free endpaper, with signature of Wyoming senator Alan Simpson: “Thanks for your help. Enjoy the book – Best regards, Al Simpson. U.S. Senator (WYO).” A unique collection of signatures, with notable ties to the Bush family.

Comments: Alan Simpson served in the United States Senate from 1979 – 1997. He was a close friend of President George H.W. Bush and eulogized him at his funeral in 2018. This work, Kings of the Hill, is often compared with Profiles in Courage by John Kennedy, It follows the lives of influential House leaders, from Sam Rayburn to Henry Clay. At the time of publication, Dick Cheney was serving in the House of Representatives, representing the state of Wyoming. He had previously served as White House Chief of Staff for President Gerald R. Ford. In 1989, he was called upon by newly elected President George H.W. Bush to serve as Secretary of Defense. In 2001, he would be asked to serve as Vice President for George W. Bush.
