Small octavo, [xvi], [4], 238pp, [2]. Publisher’s Japanese brocade silk boards, stab-bound with silk cord, gilt top edge, fore edge untrimmed, illustrated endpapers. Complete with illustrations by Fujita, including two color frontispieces printed from woodblocks and additional full-page illustrations. Housed in the publisher’s silk wrap-case with ivory clasps, title on a label on the spine, with light sunning along margins. Includes the publisher’s original glassine wrap.
One of 1,500 numbered copies printed by The Shimbi Shoin in Tokyo for members of The Limited Editions Club, number 361, signed by the illustrator, Yasumasa Fujita, on the colophon.
A finely produced edition of Hearn’s best-known collection of Japanese ghost stories, first published in 1904.
