The Subscriber’s Edition of Lament for the Death of a Matador by John Fulton Short, one of 79 copies, with an original drawing by Short.

Large folio, 41pp, [3]. Black cloth with a gilt pictorial design. Illustrated with photographs and facsimiles. Complete with four loose color plates by Short in the rear pocket. In the publisher’s slipcase, light wear to boards and side panels.

One of 79 numbered subscriber copies, this being number 11. Signed by John Fulton Short on the limitation page, with an original drawing and note to the subscriber, which translates: “To Doc, a great aficionado of bullfighting and an even better friend, as a remembrance from his friend, who will always be grateful for everything you have done for me. John / 1965.”

The paintings are based on Federico García Lorca’s poem Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. The poem commemorates Lorca’s friend, the Spanish matador Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. (BJVM (LT) 1583)
