The second printing of a Letter From Birmingham City Jail by Martin Luther King, Jr., published May, 1963.

Octavo, [1], 2-15pp, [1]. Publisher’s original printed wrappers, bound at spine with staples, title on front cover. The second printing, with the “6-63” date code and “First Printed 5-63” on rear cover, following a first issue from May of 1963. Faint soiling to covers, blue blemish on rear panel near the spine. Internally clean, free of any marks or notations. A near fine example. (Blockson 3226)

The first partial appearance of Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham City Jail” was in the New York Post Sunday Magazine on May 19, 1963. The “American Friends Service Committee” was the first to receive permission to publish King’s letter in full, which appeared in late May of 1963.
