Description

Signed first edition of Lincoln’s Preparation for Greatness by Paul Simon.

Octavo, xv, 355pp. Orange cloth, title in gilt on spine. Top edge dyed orange. Stated “First edition” on copyright page. Slight lean to text block, otherwise clean and bright. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $6.95 retail price, light sunning to spine, wear to hinges and top edge, touch of shelf wear, a very good example. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “To — — – a distinguished son of a distinguished father – with best wishes to you for your very bright future. Paul Simon 5-26-67.”

Paul Simon (1928-2003) was an Illinois Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and in the Senate from 1985 to 1997. Simon wrote twenty-two books throughout his career, and was known for his traditional horn-rimmed glasses and bow tie. In a tribute to Simon, former President Bill Clinton said he was “beyond question, one of the most remarkable public servants I ever knew.”
