The 1925 Collier edition of Mark Twain’s Autobiography by Mark Twain, with the publisher’s scarce dust jackets and slipcase.
Octavo, [two volumes], xvi, 368pp, [2]; [4], 365pp, [3]. Maroon cloth, facsimile signature of Twain stamped in gilt on front covers, title stamped in gilt on spines. Top edge gilt. Both volumes appear unread. In the publisher’s fine dust jackets, short closed tear at head of Volume II, exceptionally bright examples. Housed in the publisher’s slipcase, title on label affixed to the side panel, light soiling and wear at hinges.
An outstanding example.
First published by Harper & Brothers in 1924, Twain’s posthumous autobiography was assembled under the supervision of his literary executor and biographer, Albert Bigelow Paine. His work on the autobiography preserved Twain’s dictated recollections. (BAL 3537)
