Octavo, [two volumes], xi, 596pp; xi, 594pp. Black cloth, title in silver gilt on spine, signature of the author in gilt on front cover. Stated “first edition” in both volumes. Top edge dyed green. Both volumes appear unread. In publishers first state dust jackets, $5.00 on front flap, light toning to spine of both, some discoloration to front panel of Volume II, touch of wear at top edge of spine from handling, both in exceptional condition considering how jackets from this edition typically age. (Burns, 0016) Inscribed by President Harry S. Truman in Years of Decisions: “To Hon. David Edelstein with kindest regards from Harry Truman. 2/3/56. Manhattan District Court Judge David N. Edelstein was nominated to serve on the federal court by President Harry Truman in 1951. He served as the chief judge of the Southern District of New York from 1971 to 1980 but continued to practice until his death in 2000. He is best remembered for the antitrust actions taken against I.B.M. and his efforts to seek out corruption in the Teamsters Union. He was the last serving federal judge appointed by President Truman.
