Description
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story, signed by John Berendt and three citizens of Savannah who are featured in the book.
Octavo, [6], 388pp, [4]. Black hardcover, black spine, title stamped in green on spine. The ninth printing, with matching number line on the copyright page. Solid text block, wear to cloth at the spine, a well-read copy. Previous ownership signature on the front free endpaper, dated “April 1994.” In publisher’s dust jacket, $25.00 retail price on front flap, faint shelf wear, a bright, near fine example.
This copy is inscribed by the author on the half title, with additional inscriptions from the citizens of Savannah who appeared in the book, including Nancy Hillis (Mandy Nicholls), Emma Kelly (The Lady of 6000 Songs), and Lady Chablis (with a lipstick kiss).
A superb association copy.
All the signatures were acquired by Louisville Courier journalist Charles Whaley, on a visit to the city in late 1994, preparing for an article which would appear in the Courier Journal on August 6, 1995.
