Comments: Considered to be one of the earliest presidential memoirs, Mr. Buchanan’s Administration On The Eve of The Rebellion is an attempt by the former president to explain his policies leading up to the Civil War. After the election of Abraham Lincoln, President Buchanan bore the brunt of the criticism for allowing the war to develop. History has often judged President Buchanan’s administration as one of America’s worst presidencies, with this book doing little to change that narrative.
