John Y. Brown, Jr. served as the democratic governor of Kentucky from 1979-1983. He rose to prominence with the purchase of Kentucky Fried Chicken from its founder, Harlan Sanders in 1964. He build the restaurant franchise into a global brand, selling it in 1971 for a substantial profit. Brown was a friend and political supporter of future President Clinton, with both serving as governor of southern states at the same time.
