Octavo, xvii, 363pp. Red cloth, title stamped in gilt on the spine. The second impression, with “2” on the copyright page. Appears unread. Lightly bumped top corners. In the publisher’s dust jacket, retail price on the front flap, faint shelf wear, a near fine copy. Inscribed by the author to Barbara Taylor Bradford: “To Barbara, with love – a small return for so many of your own lovely books. With warm wishes, John Major.”

Provenance: Doyle Auctions of New York, May 2025. This copy is from the private collection of Barbara Taylor Bradford, a British-American novelist. Following the success of her debut novel, A Woman of Substance (1979), Bradford wrote 40 best-selling novels, often about young women advancing in the world through hard work.
