Octavo, [8], 287pp, [1]. Publisher’s gray cloth, title stamped in silver on the spine. The first printing, “Published October, 1936” stated on the copyright page. Internally clean, a fine example. In the publisher’s very good dust jacket, $2.50 retail price on the front flap, a few chips along bottom edge of front panel, a very good example, scarce.
Inscribed on the front free endpaper: “With the best wishes of Sterling North.”
North’s early novel tells the story of a Wisconsin small town during World War I, with attention to anti-German prejudice and the home-front experience. A contemporary Kirkus review described it as a “Wisconsin small town” war novel and noted it as an advance over Plowing on Sunday.
