Description

The first edition of Norman Rockwell: 332 Magazine Covers, with text and commentary by Christopher Finch.

Folio, 455pp, [1]. Green cloth, illustration stamped in black on the cover, title in gilt over white printed label on the spine. No additional printings noted. Solid text block, bumped corner on rear cover, appears unread. Illustrated with over 300 color plates from the lifetime work of Norman Rockwell. In the publisher’s dust jacket, folded flaps on verso, trivial sunning to the spine, a bright example, scarce in this condition.

Norman Rockwell’s magazine covers are central to his published work as an American illustrator, notably The Saturday Evening Post, for which he produced 322 covers between 1916 and 1963, beginning with Boy with Baby Carriage on the May 20, 1916 issue and ending with his December 14, 1963 memorial portrait of John F. Kennedy. Rockwell’s cover work also appeared in Boys’ Life, Look Magazine, Life, Literary Digest, Leslie’s Weekly, and other periodicals.
