Martha Ellen “Mattie” Young Truman (1852-1947) was the mother of President Harry S. Truman. She was the mother of three children (Harry, John Vivian, and Mary Jane Truman) and remained a central figure in the Truman family into her son’s presidency. She died in 1947, during Harry Truman’s first elected term as president, and is buried in Jackson County, Missouri.
