Publisher’s deluxe binding of the Personal Memoirs of P.H. Sheridan, the first edition, published in 1888.

Octavo, [two volumes], xiii, 500pp; xi, 486pp. Full brown morocco, gilt titles on spines, decorative illustration blind-stamped on covers. Both spines professionally restored, done with exceptional care. Both are identical to the publisher’s original leather. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers with decorative gilt turn-ins. Light rubbing to side panels, all stable. Both hinges reinforced with restoration, Volume I is notably stiff. Tissue repair to closed tear on half title of Volume II. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume, some transference to tissue and title page. Multiple illustrated maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. Large fold-out map of the Battle of Winchester (Eicher 572) (Nevins II: 88)

An attractive example of the scarce full morocco edition of Sheridan’s Memoirs.

Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant.
